Low Carb Diets -What You Should Know About Them
Diets that are low carb or even completely anti-carb are now among the most popular diets around. The Atkins Diet was really the first popular low carb diet, and since that one came out, many others followed. People suddenly started trying to give up all carbohydrate foods and while they did lose weight, they found that once they indulged in even a tiny bit of carbohydrate based sustenance, the weight all came back. Carbohydrates are actually essential for your health.
Without them, you will feel a lack of energy. What you have to watch out for with carbs is eating the “bad” ones, and eating too many of any kind. We’ll look at some ways to accomplish this.
Try using cauliflower instead of rice. Not many people know this, but cauliflower is a great low carb vegetable that can take the place of rice. While ordinary rice takes at least twenty minutes to cook, cauliflower can be cooked in about half that time. The amount of time it would normally take you to cook a rice based dish will take a tiny portion of the same time if you use grated cauliflower. You should test this for yourself -follow a recipe that calls for rice and substitute with cauliflower and you’ll find it’s at least as good. The one advantage rice has over cauliflower is the price; cauliflower will tend to cost you a bit more. Nonetheless, it has many beneficial qualities and can help you reduce the carbohydrates you consume in your diet. Eat natural, unprocessed foods as much as possible. People who are in the habit of eating fast foods and packaged foods have an especially hard time reducing the carbs in their diet. There are foods that are marked “low carb,” but these are also processed foods that aren’t really a satisfactory answer. These “low carb alternatives” do not actually curb your craving for carbohydrates. You’ll feel much more satisfied if you switch to simpler, all natural foods. For example, a handful of nuts will fill you up just as easily as a candy bar but won’t come with the accompanying sugar crash or “more junk food” cravings.
Eating only food that you prepare yourself is the simplest way to eat fewer carbohydrates. Between going to a drive through or packing a lunch, too often the high carb fast food wins out because it is so much easier. When you make dinner out of low carb foods, the leftovers would make a nice lunch, that would be a much healthier choice, especially for the low carb crowd. The best chance you have of losing weight is to make a tasty lunch rather than going to a drive through or convenience store, to indulge in unhealthy food that is not too good for your waistline or your health. Fortunately, you can eat a low carb diet and still enjoy many different foods. Try to open your mind and let go of the notion that it’s extremely challenging to eat fewer carbs. The truth is, however, that it is not. All foods can be replaced -for example, you can find pastas made with low carb grains. When you open your eyes, you’ll find a vast, low carb universe! If you still feel that a low carb diet is a major challenge, visit your doctor or other trusted health care provider for help. This can speed up your progress.
